June Update
June is here with all it's hot weather and sunshine! Nice to walk in that cool arena on Friday nights and enjoy the ice. The ARL has had a great beginning. We have appreciated all of your comments, input and patience while we work on making some necessary changes to the league. So... important things first.
The results from our poll and the input we have received from both captains and players has brought us to a decision. Although it is something we will always leave open as an option, at this time the league will not be split into two divisions. We will continue to attempt to make any changes necessary to make the mixed skill level a success. The ARL was built around the idea of seasoned rookies helping newbies, and friends and family being able to play on a team together. We still need to try and make this happen.
Our skills sessions have started! Wow..thanks to all our great instructors! Rob and Dante for the skaters, Brian and Neil for the goalies. They are doing a tremendous job! We have had nothing but positive feedback since our first lesson. Who could believe that all that hard work and sweat could actually be fun!
Our newest rule, the penalty for hotdogging, made a big difference in only it's first week. Lots more passing and including the newbies in the play. Thanks to everyone for giving this a try. And the change in the the penalty shot rule. Positive feedback from that as well. A lot safer for both goalies and players and gives the shooter a good chance to carry the puck without a crowd in pursuit! The sound of those approaching skaters from behind was WAY too intimidating!
Thanks to Stats Guy (Scot) for the prompt reporting and for doing such a great job on our website - let him know if we've missed any of your hard-earned points. Hope all teams are having as much fun out there on the ice as The Drips are having together. The league is well on it's way to filling up for the winter.
We look forward to getting that organized. Thanks to all for your support.
