Skate the Dream
January 18, 2012 -- Hello ARL'ers! One thing all the players in our league have in common. We love hockey! Here's a chance to help bring the love of hockey into the lives of some very special kids.

Hamilton Bulldogs along with the City of Hamilton has launched a program called 'Skate the Dream'.This is for inner city children. Many of these kids struggle just to have the basics of life. Food, clothes, a warm bed and someone to care. Adding hockey to their life is, for most of them, the first ray of hope they've had.
We at the ARL want to make a league wide contribution to this incredible program. This is what it is all about. Skate the Dream is a pilot project based out of Eastwood Arena in Hamilton that provides an opportunity for children aged 6 to 10 to participate in a Learn to Skate combined with a 3 on 3 Learn to Play Hockey Introductory Program. Hamilton native and Stanley Cup champion Ric Nattress is the Honourary Chair of the program and he will also be providing on ice instruction to the kids. The program currently requires some assistance.
They have had huge donations of equipment for the kids so they're off to a good start BUT they could really use cash donations. The cost to enroll a child in Skate the Dream is $10 for a six week program. As the best hockey league in the GTA and definitely the league with the biggest heart we want to work together to help inner city children experience the joy of hockey.
So here's the idea. We have 28 teams in our league. We want to challenge each team in the ARL to see how many kids we can send to the program. $10 a kid. Come on ARL'ers. Let's make it happen.
We will gather all donations by Friday Feb 12 so we can give our gift to Skate the Dream on Valentines Day...from the league with the biggest heart!

December 29, 2011 -- Thanks to everyone that survived the marathon tournament! White Matter led by Michael Desroaches defeated the All-Stars for the Championship and Marijana's Gold Rush were the Champions of the basement! Winners of the draw prizes were Bryan Salmond (All-Star goalie) and Michelle Carrigan (Gold Rush sniper) -- Congratulations. Thanks for being a part of it all. We are planning to have our Wave Spring Blast tourney after the winter blows over. :-)
Games Moved
December 19, 2011 -- Please note that on Sunday Feb 5th our 4 morning hours have now been moved to Mainway Arena at 6:30-10:30pm - the schedule has been updated. We will remind the captains affected closer to the games.
Who are these Gift of Lifers?
December 17, 2011 -- Team sponsor for one of our new teams - Cruickshanks Gift of Lifers - is Tim Cruickshanks, a Dundas area Landscaper. Tim wanted to call the team the Lifers after his favourite cause - the Gift of Life. Tim explains that the Gift of Life is not a charity but more an initiative to build awareness about the Gift of Life - organ donation. Team captains Darryl and Kim Smith brought Tim and friends to the ARL this Fall. Tim's daughter 15 year old Devan was helped at SickKids through a heart transplant seven years ago and since then has been driven to help save lives - Read more about Devan and her drive in a recent Spectator article... - also check out the website for BeADonor.ca

First Goal... Finally.
Most players that join the ARL eventually get their first goal after a few months or so but Friday night Sean McMillan finally recorded his - after 6 seasons? Apparently he finally listened to his team yelling SHOOOOT! It has been a long time but Craig Gallello also scored as did Peter van der Zouwe earning them a tie with the mighty Blue Chips.
Congratulations as well to Marc Chabot for his first goal ever for Team Health Force.
So apparently that just leaves Sandra Walker on the Preds as the only other player not to have scored in 8 seasons.
DEAR PATTI
Question: I play in the beginner division and my Captain is always asking me to take penalty shots and I don't understand why. I know I will never score! I hardly even know how to carry the puck! Why doesn't he choose a player who could score a goal for our team and why is my captain the one to pick who shoots? Shouldn't it be more of a team decision?
~ Skill-less Sam
Answer: First of all...we're glad you're in our league! Beginners are our favourites in the ARL.
Your captain is choosing you to take your team's penalty shot because he wants you to have some fun! It gives you a chance to carry the puck and take a shot with NO ONE interfering. No pressure for you to score... but you never know. Give it a try! Once you realize how fun it is, you'll be begging to take penalty shots. We ask that captains always be the ones to choose the shooter....he's not just being bossy. There's not enough time for a team discussion and we are confident that our captains will make the right decision. They know what it's all about!
~ Patti
DEAR PATTI
Question: My team is missing all our stronger players so we don't seem to stand a chance against the other team. They are up 5-0 in no time. Can we use an extra player until we get one freakin goal?
~ Having No Luck
Answer: Well No Luck - it seems you are in luck after all. - we will allow a sixth player if you are being slaughtered by a 5-goal differential. That other mean team is still not allowed another goal anyway until you get one so give it a try! ~ Patti
~ ASK PATTI
It's Begun! Fall is here... and so is hockey.
September 18, 2011 - Congratualtions Everyone!
The ARL is off to another great season. Opening days brought us players full of enthusiasm, eager to get on the ice with their new teams. It was so good to greet everyone! To put names to faces for all the new ARLers and to welcome back our returning players. What a great league we have! Thanks to everyone for joining us!
This season brings our first ARL Sunday games. I know this is a change for all of us but seemed to work well. In watching the games, the biggest difference I noticed was the crowd! It seems we get MANY more fans on Sunday mornings. And the most common post game question asked after a Sunday morning game was "ok what do we drink at 11am! "
As always...comments and suggestions are always welcome. Hope everyone has a great season!
It's OVER!!!!!
August 29, 2011 - Summer is OVER! Well , ARL summer season is over. Thanks to everyone for making Summer 2011 a huge
success! Championship night was great with alot of very close games! Avs vs Blue Chips went to a shoot out and after MANY shots, Avs ended up winning the game 5-4. Lots of fans were out to watch which made it even more exciting as the crowd cheered on both teams.

Congratulations go out to Team Health Force for putting up a great fight and WINNING the overall worst of the worst award! The team was heard saying it was a difficult road leading to the "Worst of the Worst" title but they did it for theT-shirt!
Check the Hall of Fame page to see the other winners of the night and the season.
Our fundraising raffle was really popular with lots of hockey-related prizes. Thanks to all that bought tickets. We were able to donate $250 to a great charity...TEAD. (the equestrian association for the disabled)
Our tournament is almost full and promises to be great fun! 4 games guaranteed on Friday and Saturday evening Sept 9 and 10. Still a couple of spots left.
Sept 1 is the Player Skate for the new players in the ARL. It will be great to meet everyone! Just a couple of drills and then a bit of shinny. Hope all you new players are looking forward to getting some ice time! We are pleased to confirm that we have 28 teams for fall/winter. Schedule and Rosters are posted and captains will be emailing their new teams shortly (if not already done)
We're really excited to start our new season! As always, please let us know if you have any comments, suggestions or concerns.

California Girl
August 14, 2011 - This Stingers team has had the same core players since the team began 3 seasons ago. All of us were new to this game of hockey and have improved to what some may call "decent" players. This fall that core of players will be making the big jump to the ARL's upper division. We will however be facing this challenge without an O.S. "Original Stinger". Leah Weinburg played her last game in the ARL last Friday. Leah and her family has to move back to L.A. this fall. She quietly lead by example, stepping up whenever the situation arrised. The definition of the ARL type of teammate, always getting everyone involved in the game.
Best of luck in sunny California Leah!!!!!
Summer Playoffs
August 7, 2011 - Our first night of ARL summer 2011 playoffs came up with a few events that would have made the TSN highlight reel!
- Congratulations to DENNIS MUNROE for scoring his first ARL goal of the season. Although Dennis doesn't show much on the points board, many say that he is the anchor for the Robson Killer Bees and that without him the team could not possibly be where they are today!
- Orange Crush won their first play off game of the season in a wildly exciting 10 player shoot out. The game was 1-0 Crush when the Stingers came up tough and tied things up with a penalty shot in the last couple minutes of play. Goalies Bruce Johnson and Scot Cameron fought a mighty battle facing 10 shooters but ended up with Ray Poliziani from Crush scoring the game winning goal.
- Although no names will be mentioned there was a captain last night that scored a magnificent goal! Snuck one right in thru the five hole. The crowd went wild! It was a moment to go down in ARL history. Now if only said captain had NOT scored on her OWN net.... we would be putting her name here with congratulations.
Week Two Coming up...
Please make sure you have signed up for our tournament in September. We are almost full. A great way to have some fun and get ready for a new season.
If you had planned on playing this Fall/Winter but missed the registration date, please contact us asap.
Playoffs are Coming!
July 23, 2011 - The ARL regular season games have now been played! We will be moving on to our round robin playoffs. The Schedule is now posted so have a look and see where and when you play.
Next Friday we will have a fun night! This is a week where the games do not count towards stats or standings and so just a night to mix things up and have some fun. Some suggestions from the past...goalies trade teams, teams mix up players...it's fun to play against your team mates! Your team captain will be talking with the captain of the team you play against and will come up with a plan.
We will be asking our team captains for some input for your team's MVP, Most Improved, Best Team Spirit etc from the summer season. If you have any player from your team in mind, please mention to your captain.
It's been a great summer season so far! Let's all go into the playoffs with an "ARL" state of mind. Playoffs always get a bit more competitive so let's make sure we keep it fun!
ARL Team Sponsors
July 23, 2011 - We are now ready for Fall - thank you to our new sponsors for joining the ARL
ARL Team Sponsors
July 10, 2011 - We need team sponsors for 6 new teams to be ready for Fall. – Our teams play in Burlington at the Wave Twin Rink and we get noticed. Each team has players, along with husbands, wives, moms, dads, co-workers and friends that all hear about the ARL and check out the standings on the website every week. We routinely have close to 400 visits to our site each day. We make a point of showing your company name on every page of the website and always use the sponsor name when mentioning the team. Our website, www.rookiehockey.ca is professionally managed and marketed and is the central spot online for the Adult Rookie League. It contains league news, schedules, and results, as well as helpful information for players and friends about hockey. The site gets linked to from the Wave Hockey website and from Burlington Sports & Rec. Being a sponsor will get your company name and logo in a prominent, well visited place on the internet, and includes links to the website of your choice. We could use the support now if you are able to help us out.
ARL Fall-Winter 2011-12
July 7, 2011 - Good News ARLers!
We are growing to 28 teams for the Fall-Winter season. We are planning on having 16 teams of beginners and 12 in the Rookie division. Thanks to everyone for making the ARL the successful league it is. To make room for these additional teams, we have added 3 hours of ice on Sunday evenings at 730, 830 and 930 at the Twin rink. These 3 hours on Sunday will mean one or two games during the season your team will play on Sunday instead of Friday.
If you haven`t registered yet - please join us now.
ARL & Appleby games
June 20, 2011 - Check this week's schedule. Two of our games are at Appleby3 since the Wave has a ref school session taking place during our earlier blue rink slots. If you get there a bit early - it really is something to watch - these guys are some of the best skaters and they tear up the ice during the skate. Appleby Rink 3 is accessible behind the normal rink1 we play at with its own separate entrance.
NOTE that Appleby is city ice and needs to run games on schedule with no allowance for extra time. Basically we have our 50 minutes and that's all so the game will start immediately at 8:00 or on the hour etc. and then the game will end either when the zamboni buzzes us off - or our clock runs out of time. Appleby games end at 10:00 to the hour.
May 9, 2011 -- Julie Ottmann, Paula Boulby!
First mention of the night goes to Paula Boulby from the Avs and to Julie Ottmann from Team Health Force for scoring their very first goals in the ARL! Although our ARL photographers were not present for either of the goals, scouts in the stands were heard saying Julie’s goal was "very impressive" and " of NHL quality". Congrats Julie. Sorry the scouts didn’t actually see Paula’s goal :-(
"Team Health Force right winger Julie Ottmann celebrated her first goal on Friday night. It was a text book example of patience and hard work as Julie set up in front of the Stars' net and calmly tapped home a rebound. Julie was very humble after the game only asking us to refer to the opposition's crease as "her office" and for us to refer to her as "Sniper" going forward."
Music at Twin - And second mention goes to our scorekeepers! Thanks to the girls for bringing music to our games. They will be composing playlists this week of Rockin' Hockey songs so if anyone has any suggestions, please let us know.
And last but not least...
Anger Management? - .third mention to captain Shannon Bentley who's team set an ARL record tonight. The Expedites are the first team to EVER play with 2 players in the penalty box at the same time and only 3 left on the ice. So... yes... it was 5 on 3 for the first time in ARL history! Shannon will be signing her team up for anger management classes beginning Monday am
April 22, 2011 -- Opening Night - this Good Friday!!
Welcome new Summer players! Thanks to the team captains for joining us last night for the meeting and for the shinny. There was a lot of great input and feedback presented during the meeting. Following are a couple of outcomes from our meeting that will be in effect this Friday in our upper ROOKIE division ...
- HOT-dogging – this will be enforced OFENSIVELY and DEFENSIVELY in the beginner AND the upper division. We do want this enforced in the upper division as well with the goal to try to encourage more team play. Any high skilled player playing at a level far above what we want in the ARL will be asked to tone it down and/or given an unsportsmanlike penalty. Above all we want safe and friendly hockey. BOTH divisions
- PENALTIES – in the upper division – Thanks to feedback over the seasons and again last night. One suggestion was to remove the penalty shot and replace it with a 6 on 5 however our less-skilled players may be even more intimidated with an extra skater on the ice... So we are removing the penalty shot rule for the upper division. We are not trying to be a normal rec hockey league and we want to always have our rules honour our beginner or less-skilled in the ARL. Still, the penalty shot rule will be replaced by normal 5 on 4 powerplay hockey starting this Friday. In order not to have our less-skilled players sit out on power-plays we are asking our team captains not to try to stack the powerplay with their best players but just go with your regular lines. We will ask you all for feedback on how this is working out after 4 games.
- Person penalized sits in box for 2 min
- 2 min posted on scoreboard
- Team penalized plays short one player for the duration o the 2 min on the board
- Go back to 5 skaters if they score a goal or at end of 2 min penalty
Again – thanks to everyone for your input and creativity. Help the less-skilled – pass the puck – have fun! See you all tomorrow night!
April 2, 2011 -- Goodbye Winter
Thank you to everyone for supporting the charity draw last night - here are our unclaimed prize ticket numbers. please call or email us if you have one of these.
649107- (Easton Hockey Bag), 649146 (hockey stick), 648816 (Bauer Vapor hockey shirt), 558447 (Drtroit Red Wings cap)
Wow...hard to believe our Fall/Winter season has come to an end. Congratulations to everyone for making the ARL such a success. We have appreciated the encouragement, input and patience from players, captains and goalies. It has helped us make some important decisions along the way. We hope you have had a great time this Winter and hope that you all return with us next season. We are always looking to improve and every season we receive a lot of feedback from you. Just want you to know that we appreciate the help along the way.
Thanks Captains. We try to help out our captains as much as possible to lighten their responsibilities but we realize that they take on the voice of all players on their team and deal with the on-ice play. They don’t get paid for any of that and most wonder what they’ve gotten themselves into by mid-season. We would like to say a big thanks to a few Captains that are not returning as captains next season – Julie Sherwood, Jake Smith and Scott Chadbolt.
Thanks to the players that have helped us get through our rink-related issues, getting scorekeepers and organizing your teams to make their rescheduled games.
Thanks to Michael Durrant for taking the amazing ARL photos this season and for posting them to our facebook group for everyone. The team photos are also in our hall of fame.
March 19, 2011 -- Championships approaching...
Two of our Rookie Division teams will be playing their last games with us this coming Friday night. Final championship night match-ups will be based on
1 – total points,
2 – Least Penalty Minutes,
3 – flipping an ARL coin... We tried everything we could to try to get everyone the extra game on this night but fell short one hour as all games move to the Twin for the night. If you are affected by this, please get your jersey/socks back to us at the wave office or leave with us after games this Friday. Team 3 and 4 in the standings after games Friday do not get a game in on Friday, April 1, 2011 –
March 19, 2011 -- Win this Crosby jersey
Starting this Friday we are selling tickets to win this hockey jersey donated to the ARL by Leigh Scott (Homies). Tickets are 3 for $5 and open to all ARL players. Tony Caravaggio recommended that we send all proceeds from the draw to Let's Learn Hockey.
Each year The Let's Learn Hockey Program (through the Ontario Minor Hockey Foundation) provides a day of hockey fun for children who are a part of Children's Aid or Big Brothers and Sisters Programs. Let's Learn Hockey provides and fits each child with new set of equipment and then they participate in an on ice session to experience the joy of hockey. At the end of the day each child is given a cerificate that will provide financial assistance to cover the cost of hockey registration for the upcoming season.
Thanks Tony and Leigh - and please everyone buy a few tickets! Draw to be held during the final awards ceremony
March 12, 2011 -- What again??
Robbed blind yet again. It doesnt seem to matter what rink in Burlington we play on, the dressing rooms get robbed. This week someone actually had a key between room 9 and 10 to get into the room 10 boys things - TAKE ALL VALUABLES TO THE BENCH WITH YOU, Take No chances.
March 6, 2011 -- Playoffs starting this week...
ARL Playoffs begin this Friday. Teams have been divided into two divisions for the Beginners. Each team plays 3 games and we look at the 1-total points, then 2-least penalty minutes, then 3-Flipping an ARL coin to determine final championship matches... Please remember that the Playoffs are no different than regular season games - keep the shots low, no diving to stop shots, it’s the ARL - not the men's rec league. Thanks everyone and good luck!
The Playoff Schedule is online so please check what game times and which rink you're on for the nights. There will be a 3 player shootout to determine the winner in case of a tie game. Players will shoot one at a time and NOT simultaneously. If it is still tied after 3 players, it will then go to a sudden death shootout. No player can shoot twice until all players have taken a shot. Captains decide who takes the shots. Captains, please talk to the other team captain before the game and decide if you will use your stronger players or weaker players as shooters. We will ask our refs to make sure that the shootouts get started quickly.
Feb 12, 2011 -- First Goal...
The Raiders lost to the Stars in their game Friday night but the real star of the night was Pat Birnie (Trainer on the Run) scoring her first goal in a shot from right out front. She scored five-hole on big Todd, the best goalie in the division! Way to go Pat.
Feb 5, 2011 -- Friday Night's Lights...
Michelle Smith got the game winner for the Stars in a 3-2 battle with the Expedites last night. Players on the Stars voted her first star of the game...
David Dear scored an amazing goal on a breakaway last night for the DRIPS. David's skating has improved A LOT since he joined us this season. The "recently-hot" Drips were up with a 2-0 lead and ended up losing 3-2 in the third to the Homies who must have felt like the Russian Juniors!
Andrea Millard scored her first goal last night for the Stingers in a 5-0 drubbing of the Raiders and Chen (Andy) Hui recorded his first Shut Out
Jan 16, 2011 -- Tournaments... -- Welcome back to hockey! Hope everyone had a great holiday. Happy New Year!
The ARL 16-mile marathon tournament was a huge success. Eveyone made it through all four games in one night and are requesting we make it an annual event. Thanks to all who participated and be sure to join us next yearfor the same thing!
Our next upcoming tournamet will be our annual ARL Spring Blast (April 15/16 at Wave Twin). We will be posting registration for this tournament shortly so keep an eye on the website Summer registration is currently sold out but please do still register if you would like to join us. We may be able to add more ice hours so then more teams!
Thank you to everyone who has already registered and welcome back to Summer - mmmm summer.
Jan 3, 2011 -- Bad News! -- In a very unfortunate circumstance, the ARL has been notified that our FRIDAY JAN 7th games this week have been completely cancelled -- replaced by another Wave event (a tournament of some sort). I think this exact same situation occurred last year come to think of it... So this means NO GAMES this week – one more week for you to go get that equipment CLEANED!! So much for the new year’s resolution on getting more exercise.
What we have done is kept the exact same schedule intact however the games that were originally scheduled for this Friday have now been moved to the end of the season – and now our championships occur on April Fool’s Day! No Joke...
We sincerely regret not knowing about this until now and apologize for the inconvenience. Your golfing season now starts one week later.
December 12, 2010 -- Only 1 game left this year! -- Happy Holidays Everyone! The first half of our ARL 2010/11 season has gone by very quickly! One more game before we take our Christmas break. A good time to say Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year to everyone! For those playing in the Marathon Tournie, see you on the 30th. Anyone looking for a New Years resolution? Well... other than quit smoking, quit drinking, lose weight... (all those standards we all try every couple years) this year how about... PASS THE PUCK to a NEWBIE! Our players that started out the season as complete rookies have done amazingly well and are falling less, carrying the puck more and really getting in the game. Congrats to all of you!
SUMMER REGISTRATION is posted and getting close to full. Although we are so pleased with how the league has grown, due to ice time limitations, we will have to cut back to 14 teams for the summer. Our efforts, as always, will be to keep the level of play as rookie as possible. We are faced with for 6 rookie teams and 8 beginner. Please sign up if you are intending to play summer. Payment is due March 1.
December 4, 2010 -- Only 2 games left this year! -- Happy Holidays Everyone! Here we are...13 games into our season. Time to do a bit of a re-cap. Our December 30th Marathon Tournie is sold-out with a wait-list! Thanks to everyone who has registered. Teams are set to go and everyone has been notified by email. Registration for Summer 2011 is now open. Because of limited ice time, we will not be able to offer 20 teams for the summer so please register early if you plan on joining us.
As seems to be the trend every season, now that teams have played together for a while and players feeling more confident in their skates... the level of play changes. No matter what division you are in, what team you play on, what the score is or where your team is in the stats... PLEASE keep you ARL state-of-mind. Just to remind everyone what that mean....
- If you knock someone over, stop and make sure they're ok. Don't throw up your hands and begin pleading with the ref for mercy AND don't just keep skating with the puck.
- No matter what division you are in, a rookie is still a rookie. If you see a weaker player with the puck, give them a chance. Do not see that as an opportunity to strip them of the puck and head to the net. Let them skate a bit.
- Pass the puck to your teammates. That's how we learn to play as a team. And that's how we get everyone involved in the game.
- Please... most importantly... this is a league for FUN SOCIAL BEGINNER hockey! If you are a superstar and here on a team with your family or friends, play like a beginner. Don't use your skill to score the winning goal. Use your skill to pass the puck to a less skilled player and help them THEM score!
So let's all re-group, slow things down a bit and remember what the ARL is all about!
Thanks to everyone for making the league so much fun to be a part of. Please let us know if you have any comments, concerns, complaints or suggestions.
November 29, 2010 -- We have the coldest scorekeepers in Ontario! - We need scorekeepers this Friday at the Twin rinks for both sides since our normal crew are in a cryonic state and need a week to unthaw... so if your family or friends know of anyone interested please let me know (scot@rookiehockey.ca). Just a reminder to everyone that these scorekeepers are our own friends and family so be patient if they happen to miss a goal or forget to stop the clock. It would happen to any of us and they are usually shivering to death out there! Thanks
November 27, 2010 -- Movember Cancer Fund Raiser - FYI, Leigh, Kathi & Jeff ended up raising $660 from the Jersey Draw which has already been donated to the Movember Charity for Prostate Cancer.
Thank you everyone for your support of this draw Leigh contacted Mauro Di Francesco (Homies) by email and he was very happy. Great job & good luck to everyone involved in Movember - just a couple days left.
November 27, 2010 -- No Goalies? – rule change. Going forward, if your team is without a goalie at the start of a game we will wait 5 min then begin playing without a goalie. The shorthanded team will play with a 6th player that will act as a 3rd defenseman. the 6th player will not be able to cross the blue line. Every effort should be made to find a replacement – i.e. next available or if a no show situation, the goalie from previous game etc. There will be no shots allowed from outside the blue line and all shots will need to be low and not hard. The game and all stats will count as normal.
If you are a goalie or want to be a goalie in the ARL please feel free to JOIN OUR GOALIE POOL.Our poor goalies need all the help we can get!
November 16, 2010 -- Movember Cancer Fund Raiser - In support of The “Movember Cancer Fund Raiser”, Leigh Scott, Jeff Robson and Kathi Hamilton will be selling tickets this coming Friday for a Toronto Maple Leaf – Dion Phaneuf Captain’s Jersey. Leigh Scott has generously donated this jersey to the cause. We encourage everyone to support their teammates who are entered in this Fund Raiser – good luck in the draw!
October 31, 2010 -- Regarding penalties at the Appleby Ice Centre where we have a penalty box opposite side of the players benches, we found that many of the penalties would end up being served for much longer than the 2 minutes posted in an effort to keep the traffic free and players safe. Going forward any penalty shall be posted on the scoreboard and the player will need to sit or stand at the end of their team bench out of the way for the duration of their penalty. We ask that team captains and players respect this time out.
September 27, 2010 -- Thanks to all of you who voted in the "hot dog" poll. The results showed that more than 50 percent oor ARL players would like to see the Hot Dog rule enforced in the beginner division. We will notify the refs of this and they will be calling "hot dogging" starting this week. To try to clarify the rule... A player who skates end-to-end with the puck and scores will be penalizes and called a Hot Dog! The goal will not count and the Hot Dogger will go to the penalty box. This is a great way to help remind the more skilled players to pass the puck, help the newbies, and keep it fun! For more detailed information please see our rules.
September 19, 2010 -- Week two! The league is in full swing and it's now time to have some fun. Hopefully everyone has a jersey but if not, please let your captain know. We also now have pinnies! So...no more green vs. green...red vs red. Thanks for your patience the first week. Each week the stats guy will record our weekly stats. Captains will be checking to make sure we have things correct. Please let your captain know if we have missed a point or recorded something incorrectly. We will get it corrected for you.
September 12, 2010 -- Hope everyone had a good time on our ARL opening night! It was great to see all the new teams out there on the Ice. Most games were pretty close in score which is a very good thing. Please let your captain know if you did not receive a jersey last night and we will arrange for you to get one this Friday. It was great to meet all you new players and to welcome returning players back. Our first night had green vs green and white vs white and blue vs blue... we are not only colour-blind convenors but we are also looking for Pinnies to use for the games where we have these conflicts.
We have had several incidents of theft from the change rooms. We have asked captains to please collect valuables and bring them to the bench but, of course, it's always best to leave valuables at home.
Please let us know if there are any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns after our first night of the Fall/Winter season!
The cross bar is having a party this Friday night. Check the poster shown below. Some great specials, live band, and they will be staying open later for us. Should be lots of fun!
September 7, 2010 -- Welcome ARL Fall/Winter Players!
For all of you ARLers that are back for more, thanks for joining us again. This season we also welcome more than 60 new players to the ARL! This league is growing quickly and we now have TWENTY TEAMS... an increase from 14 teams in the summer season. For Fall/Winter we will need to ask for your patience while we iron out the wrinkles that we are expecting to develop. Since we have added six teams, we will now be playing out of 2 arenas (three Ice surfaces) This may cause a bit of confusion initially mostly around dressing rooms. We are hoping everything runs smoothly!
Please check the schedule weekly to make sure you know when and where you play since the schedule was recently changed. Also, please let your captain know if you can't make it to a game. For our opening night, please arrive at the arena at least 45 minutes early to pick up your socks and jersey. As usual, please remember this is a fun, social, non-aggressive league. The skill level is MIXED in both divisions. Our more seasoned players are always expected to help out the newbies. Let them carry the puck, pass them the puck, make it fun for everyone! Please let us know if you have any comments or concerns and good luck to everyone this hockey season. |
