| Skate the Dream
January 18, 2012 -- Hello ARL'ers! One thing all the players in our league have in common. We love hockey! Here's a chance to help bring the love of hockey into the lives of some very special kids.

Hamilton Bulldogs along with the City of Hamilton has launched a program called 'Skate the Dream'.This is for inner city children. Many of these kids struggle just to have the basics of life. Food, clothes, a warm bed and someone to care. Adding hockey to their life is, for most of them, the first ray of hope they've had.
We at the ARL want to make a league wide contribution to this incredible program. This is what it is all about. Skate the Dream is a pilot project based out of Eastwood Arena in Hamilton that provides an opportunity for children aged 6 to 10 to participate in a Learn to Skate combined with a 3 on 3 Learn to Play Hockey Introductory Program. Hamilton native and Stanley Cup champion Ric Nattress is the Honourary Chair of the program and he will also be providing on ice instruction to the kids. The program currently requires some assistance.
They have had huge donations of equipment for the kids so they're off to a good start BUT they could really use cash donations. The cost to enroll a child in Skate the Dream is $10 for a six week program. As the best hockey league in the GTA and definitely the league with the biggest heart we want to work together to help inner city children experience the joy of hockey.
So here's the idea. We have 28 teams in our league. We want to challenge each team in the ARL to see how many kids we can send to the program. $10 a kid. Come on ARL'ers. Let's make it happen.
We will gather all donations by Friday Feb 12 so we can give our gift to Skate the Dream on Valentines Day...from the league with the biggest heart!
